The Torrey Pines Soaring Council was formed in 1978 as an advisory organization
of park users to the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department, Real
Estate Assets Department and any Lessee at the gliderport. The organization
has been in existence ever since, and continues to monitor and support the safety
and enjoyment of flight activities at the cliff, advising the City of San Diego,
the University of California, San Diego, and the Flight Director at Torrey Pines
of any problems or concerns raised by the users.
The California non-profit Torrey Pines Gliderport Historical Society, Inc. was founded in 2001 and the Torrey Pines Soaring Council serves as that organization’s Executive Board.
